Vintage, Mid 20th Century, Spanish, Ship Scene Painting – Oil on Canvas, 55″W x 82.5″H.

This striking ship scene could be the Niña, Pinta, or the Santa Maria. Though Columbus was notably Italian, his benefactors were Spanish – like the artist, M. Pepetier. An understudy of the Catalan master Jose Maria Sert, Pepetier conveys the spirit of New World seafaring in this large-scale oil painting, housed in a minimalist new wood frame. Heavy wear and some paint loss and tears in canvas.
